Case Studies

Below are three of our signature consultancy projects. These three examples highlight our capability across various different thematic areas, our strength around European Funding, the relationships we built up with our clients, and the different types of organisations we work with.

Business West Ltd

The Insight Works have been working closely with Business West in Bristol since 2007. We were originally brought in to offer technical support to their ERDF Internationalisation proposal, but once we began to work together, Business West asked us to get involved in other areas of the organisation as well. We were key in the successful development of a £9.2m ERDF project, as well as the current development of its £10m successor. We’ve provided support on bid development, client data management, regulation compliance, match funding solutions and various other aspects of ERDF project delivery. We helped develop the £4m Enterprise Europe Network, as well as being contracted to work with the UKTI core team to develop their key services.

Alongside our on-going work on the ERDF projects and EEN, we worked closely with the senior management team to conduct a ‘root and branch’ review of the organisation, and most recently we were asked to look at providing support to projects in other areas of the company.

Our relationship with Business West has been built on our expertise and capability around European Funding, but it is our hands-on, practical, sleeves rolled up approach that has allowed the relationship to blossom – and we look forward to continue to work with them in the future.

West Midlands Chambers of Commerce LLP

In October 2009 we were invited by West Midlands LLP to submit a proposal for the analysis of the Inward Investment aftercare activity in the West Midlands. We were lucky enough to be successful and we carried out a thorough ‘Map and Gap’ exercise. Our focus was on the hugely successful Business Engagement Project which was being delivered by the 6 Chamber teams under the LLP umbrella – 12 months after delivering our final report we were invited back to carry out a full evaluation of the project and to write and develop a Regional Growth Fund proposal on behalf of the LLP.

GLE Group

We began working with GLE Group in London back in 2006 and continued to work closely with them up until 2010. We were initially engaged to offer technical support to their ERDF project ‘Global Gateway 2 Trade’, and following a successful outcome, we were invited back to help the organisation develop their new £10.1m ERDF Global London project. After submitting a successful proposal, and were later engaged by GLE to provide technical support on ‘Global London’.

Our work included designing the application and impact evidencing forms to ensure compliance with ERDF regulations to ensure GLE Group complied with all other regulations in areas such as procurement, publicity, etc.

We have also worked with a number of other organisations over the past 6 years, including:

Advantage West Midlands, All About Ltd, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce International Trade Division, Coventry University Enterprises Ltd, DTI/BERR/BIS, Kent County Council, Kent Foundation, OneLondon Trade and Investment Ltd, National Council for Graduate Enterprise, National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, Lloyds TSB, Reach Out Productions Ltd, Simon Langton School, SWRDA, UKTI East Midlands, UKTI London, UKTI South East, UKTI West midlands, Wolverhampton University.
